Early Statement

My work is about many things.

I don't know what they all are.

It's about being in my studio.

It's about 3-D space

and the relationship between me

and my materials in space.

Immediacy has to do with it.

It's about imperfections and ackwardness –

and other things beyond my control

while consciously trying to

shed that which is stifling or confining.

It's about “freedout” freedom.

I want my sculptures to be a place.

Recent Statement

My sculptures are about playing with space.

Making sculpture for me is a process of choices and decisions – involving work, energy and materials: making plans, taking actions, dealing with gravity, moving structures around, making connections, attachments and changes – allowing for mistakes and enjoying surprises. I love to throw color into the mix.

My paintings are either abstracted landscapes of places that inspire me, or compositional studies.

There is always give-and-take between control and spontaneity, ideas and excitement – the goal is exhilaration for me and the viewer.
